This book-Lido area is for me to share my reading experiences with my readers here in blog. All reviews here are public books I read, but not everyone who read develop a review.
Usually I write a post for each book read, but in this case the series The Chronicles Saxon, do autor Bernard Cornwell, I could not keep this rule. The books are so exciting, and as easy to read with my Kindle Paperwhite, I finished the first six volumes in unbroken sequence.
This frantic reading just messing me when I have to make a specific review of each book. So I decided to consolidate into a single post my impressions of these first six books.
Always heard good of Bernard Corwell and decided to start reading through this series of Saxon Chronicles and I'm not regretting the choice. Once you have begun discovered that not all books have been published yet and that's always worrying. No one lives forever and write a book takes time, is not even George Martin?
Uhtred of Bebbanburg – The fictional warrior
The Saxon Chronicles mix real events with fictional using as a background the old century England IX. The author uses historical facts to create a compelling and addictive story with fictional characters to connect the gaps in the historical record, and romanticizing a bit a time when no one should bathe and death came free for those who blinked at the wrong time.
Uhtred Uhtredson is one of those fictional characters, located in the historical context by author, to guide us and live the adventures that time struggles, Defeats and Triumphs. It is the protagonist who narrates all the events and the chief warrior of King Alfred, even hated this condition.
Starring, We follow the evolution of this character as a child. From the moment you turn orphan, passa a ser “slave” Danish Vikings, reinforces their beliefs to the pagan gods, evolves into a great warrior and fight against the people who loves in favor of a king and god hates.
It's really amazing how this character achievement in. Taking into account the time in which he lived, all pinches to create a hero are placed over the books that we love Uhtred, even if we do not agree with some of their attitudes.
The Saxon Chronicles
The series chronicles Saxon begins to pass in the ninth century, a region divided into several kingdoms (Wessex, Nortúmbria, Mercia, Ânglia Oriental etc.), living being invaded by Danish Vikings in search of fertile land, of mild climate, and great place to raise a family. On the other hand the king of Wessex was to dream unification of these kingdoms and the creation of England.
This period of history was certainly very bloody. A period where war involving swords, shields, horses, boats and ships… All to help dampen the red earth.
Despite this tension death, Cornwell can hold the player with the winning strategies of war of the protagonist and the political / religious fight trying to rule the kingdom above the King.
This series consists, until now, seven books published in Brazil. They are:
01- O Last Kingdom
02- The Pale Horseman
03- The Lords of the North
04- Sword Song
05- The Burning Land
06- Death of Kings
07- The Pagan Lord
The eighth book, already published out there by the name of The Empty Throne (something like The Empty Throne), It is expected to be published in Brazil in August 2015. Let's wait.
Even though the series has not yet been completed by the author, as always run the risk of not being completed (#GoT), I recommend reading for all who like stories Vikings, fighting with swords, shields, horses, political plots and an intelligent human hero.
I loved those first six books and start reading the next (The Guerreio Pagan) logo-logo. I will take time now to read a few more books “head”. MBA na veia!
